Teaching Computing – the Thames Valley Hub

In association with “Computing At Schools”

Kick-off meeting

Objectives:

Our aim is to share good practice, ideas and resources with teachers across the Thames Valley and beyond.  The kick-off meeting will allow us to meet, identify common experiences and find out how an association – the regional hub, might help us.

Presentations:

Using Scratch at Key Stage 3

Peter Marshman - (AST, Computing and ICT, Park House School)

Scratch is designed to assist young people to develop a logical and algorithmic thinking in an environment that supports imagination and diversity. Peter will present practical uses of Scratch. He will also share resources for use on online learning environments and will show how features of these environments can be combined with Scratch to enable effective teaching and learning.

Teaching Computing in the USA

Graham Macleod – (ICT and Computing teacher, Little Heath School)

Graham will report back from a recent visit to the USA, explaining how computing subjects are introduced in the High School system and what resources and techniques we can borrow from this system.

Forum:

The majority of the session will be an open forum in which teachers are invited to introduce themselves and highlight possible benefits from a regional association. In discussion we will decide how to develop the group.   We will also highlight some useful on-line resources for teaching both ICT and Computing at all Key Stages.

We look forward to seeing you there.
